Religous Formation

ARRIVAL:  Our Tuesday Religious Education program starts promptly at 4:00pm or 7:00pm.  If a student arrives earlier than the designated time, he or she should go directly to their assigned classroom where a catechist or an aide will be present.  No child should enter a classroom without an adult present in the room.

ATTENDANCE:  In order to maintain a certain level of continuity, regular class attendance is of the utmost importance.  Therefore, unless there is a serious reason, we only allow three absences a year.  A note should be sent for each absence.

TARDINESS:  Any students who arrive after 4:10pm or 7:10pm are considered late and will be marked absent unless a note is presented.

DISMISSAL:  Our program ends at 5:00pm or 8:00pm.

EARLY DISMISSAL:  If for some reason the student has to leave class early, a note is required from the parent of guardian.  The child should give this note to the teacher.  It will then be sent to the office with attendance.

CALENDAR:  Our Lady of Consolation Religious Education classes begins mid-September for Grades 1 - 8 until the end of March.

CARE OF SCHOOL PROPERTY: Any student who has been found defacing school or church property will be held responsible whether their actions were willful or accidental.

SECURITY:  The only door, which will remain open, is the front door.  All other doors around the school will be locked.  All doors will open from the inside at all times.

DISIPLINE:  It is important that students understand what is expected of them during the hours spent in Religious Education.  Acceptable behavior is expected at all times.  Discipline will be administered if unacceptable behavior exists, such as;
stealing, carrying weapons, such as knives or toy guns or any item which would give the impression of harm, bad attitude towards an adult or classmate, disruptive behavior, damaging school or church property or the property of others, fighting in or outside of building, leaving the building during Religious Education without a supervised adult, cursing or swearing, possession of drugs, alcohol or cigarettes.

The Director of Religious Education reserves the right to confiscate any of these items.  Any student found in violation of the above could be dismissed immediately and such actions could impede their receiving Sacraments.

HOMEWORK:  We are sensitive to the fact that students get a great deal of homework in school and with that in mind, we do not impose a great deal of studying.  However, to say there is never any homework is misleading.  There are, occasionally, assignments, which are very important to a particular session.  We expect these assignments to be completed.  We expect parents to go over the class work and any homework the student may have.  We ask that students bring their books to class each time and put them in a safe place so that they don't lose them at home.

TESTING:  Testing on classroom work will be done early in January and the last week of March.

INJURY OR ILLNESS:  If a student becomes injured or is ill while attending Religious Education, the Religious education Office will contact a parent or guardian.  It is very important that we know how to contact parents.  If you will not be home, please leave a neighbor's number or someone who will be able to pick the child up.

MEDICINE:  No medicine will be administered to any student including aspirin.  If your child is on medication, please see to it that it is administered prior to Religious Education class.

MASS ATTENDANCE:  Saturday or Sunday Mass attendance is expected for every student.

RULES OF THE SCHOOL BUILDING:
o   Always enter the building quietly.
o   Go directly to your assigned classes.

o   Use lavatories only at assigned times using the "buddy system".
